This is because they were composed by Yukifumi Makino, which is also why those two songs have been able to be used in games beyond the first two Mega Drive titles. While every track Nakamura composed is on the soundtrack, two pieces of music from both games are absent from the collection: the Chaos Emerald jingle and the drowning music. The enclosed liner notes also come with an interview with Nakamura, images of the concept art that inspired the first game's soundtrack, and a comment by the game's programmer, Yuji Naka. Rounding things off on the third disc is the fully-realized vocal version of the ending theme from Sonic 2, " SWEET SWEET SWEET," including the original Japanese track, the English variant, and both versions of the 2006 remix done by Akon. While the entirety of the first disc is simply as the songs sounded while being played on Mega Drive hardware, the second disc contains the original demo tracks. Released under the DCT Records imprint, the entire album is the brainchild of Masato Nakamura, lead member of the Japanese group DREAMS COME TRUE. Sonic the Hedgehog 1&2 Soundtrack is a three-disc music compilation containing almost the entirety of both soundtracks from the Mega Drive games Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
